Hungry Bride

I am a girl that truly enjoys food. From preparing it to eating it, I can't get enough. It does not help that I am a professionally trained chef, thus making the food that I eat more elaborate, rich, and packed with calories. I feel like my whole life has consisted of being on a diet, but I'm still a size 10 and not the size 6 that I would like to be, so obviouslly it's not working to well. As of the new year, I decided to make a life style change. I began going to the gym 4 to 5 times a week and as of yesterday, I began my journey of cooking through the Hungry Girl cookbooks. As of right now, there are two books out. They are Hungry Girl:200 under 200 and Hungry Girl. Both books are by Lisa Lillien. Basically, the author modifies regular recipes using lower fat ingredients while trying to maintain the original recipe's flavor. My plan is to post daily (hopefully) about each recipe I have cooked that day and how my progress is going. My goal for the year is to loose thirty pounds and be able to fit into a georgous wedding dress. On a final note, I must mention that I am a bit crazy because I am doing this while raising a two year old, working two jobs, and finishing my masters; I hope I survive my little experiment!!!!

Teaching

In order to be a good student, you must have the proper tools along with hard work and determination. In order to be a good teacher, you must create an environment in which your students can thrive in. As teachers, it is our job to teach. As educators, it is our job to learn, and pass our acquired knowledge on. If you give someone an inch, they will take a mile; but if you give someone nothing, what will they take then? At what point should we as teachers expect the students to teach themselves? Never! It is our job to plant seeds of knowledge in them, and allow them to flourish.

Ch 3 Blogging

Blogging is a great way to communicate your thoughts with the world. Will Richardson discusses how blogging can be beneficial in a classroom setting. As a future teacher, I would like to use blogging in my class. One great example in the book is giving students a provocative question at the beginning of the week and having them blog on it several times through out the week. They can build their responses based on their classmates comments and responses. At the end of the week their is a wealth of responses and opinions to that one question and this provides an excellent source for class discussion.
